FORMER Burnley council Labour chief Kath Reade has dismissed suggestions that she may mount a new challenge for the leadership at the ruling group's annual elections on Sunday.
But she confirmed that she had been approached by some Labour councillors to challenge present leader Stuart Caddy.
"I have been asked by a number of members and I am grateful to them for their support.
"But I now have many other commitments and I have no wish to lead the current Labour group," she said.
Coun Reade was defeated by postal union chief Coun Caddy by three votes last year, in the wake of party unrest following the council house allocations inquiry which led to three councillors quitting the party to sit as Independents.
