LANCASTER and District Dyslexia Association has made and launched a special video to raise awareness of the disability.
The video was funded by a lottery grant and is the culmination of two years work.
Civic dignitaries such as the mayor, Cllr Abbott Bryning, and both local MPs, Hilton Dawson and Geraldine Smith, were at the launch of the video, which features young people talking about dyslexia.
The association's chairman, Cllr Elaine Bush, said: "This is a milestone event for the association and shows the courage of the young people who took part in the video in being identified as dyslexic. Many positive things can be achieved by dyslexics as the posters of the many famous people around the room show. It is time to get away from the negative imaging that is perpetuated by comedians. To admit you have a disability is an achievement in itself."
Copies of the video "Positively Dyslexic" can be obtained from the Lancaster and District Dyslexia Association by calling Cllr Elaine Bush on 400395.
