ST HELENS CC completed a comprehensive victory in their derby clash with St Helens Recs at Ruskin Drive.
But they were made to work hard for their runs against a very good pace attack of Faul and Ford who each finished with commendable figures of 1-17 off nine overs. Steve Garvey was the pick of the home bowlers with 4-26.
Steve Kenny continued his good early season form with a top score of 31 with Ian Mackus (24) and Phil Roughley (18) making good contributions in a final score of 145-9.
The St Helens bowlers continued to dominate the opposition with Jordan (1-12) and Sheppard (1-6) taking out the openers before the spin attack took over with Friar (4-22) and Roughley (3-5) removing the rest of the batsmen with 13 overs of the match still to go and the score only 50 all out. Mukherjee's contribution of five overs for only two runs should not be underestimated and Darren Tymms' direct hit from the deep to run out Sheeran plus a superb reflex catch off bat and pad to remove Vinny Wood added at least a foot to his height after the game.
In an exciting game at Windleshaw Road St Helens second team scored 212 thanks to major contributions from Horabin (85) Keenaghan (53) and Lowe (35).
Recs responded in fine style with Ericson (56) Aconley (37) and Lyon (30) the main scores in a total of 198 with Challinor, McCabe and Kenny taking one wicket each.
The St Helens third team completed a successful weekend by defeating Northern at home on Sunday restricting them to a total of 116 all out with Fell taking five wickets, Paul Booth and Holmes two each and Luke Booth the other one. Dennett, Fell and Paul Booth were the top scorers in a winning total of 120-6.
This Saturday the first team entertain Wallasey in the last of the Penketh Trophy group matches with the third team at home on Sunday against Widnes.
