RUBEROID Sutton Cricket Club had mixed fortunes over the Bank Holiday weekend.
On Saturday against old Parkonians the First XI gained an overwhelming victory bowling Parkonians out for 88 with Indian professional SS Das getting 6-19 and then hitting 47 not out as Sutton coasted to victory by seven wickets.
The Second XI won the toss and asked Parkonians to bat first. Sutton's bowlers toiled on a batting paradise at New Street and Parkonians made 137-2 declared.
Sutton made a valiant effort to chase this total and Brian Wearden with 43, Alex Marsh 29 and Gary Frost with a fighting 16 left Sutton on 160 all out and defeat by 13 runs.
On Monday the First XI went to Irby and the home team after losing two on the run were not in a charitable mood as they made 200-7 declared from 57 overs. This left Sutton with little time to chase and they lost wickets being positive. Keiron Barr with 48 and SS Das with 27 were Suttons leading lights.
The Second XI were at home again and batted first making a good 185-8 declared. Brian Wearden 61, Gareth Powel 36 and Darren Hockenhull all did superbly with the bat. At 140 for 4 Irby were coasting to victory but some excellent bowling and fielding from Sutton saw them bowl Irby out for 178. Phil Jukes and Steve Greener with three wickets apiece and Ray Foster and Gavin with two apiece were the stars.
On Sunday Sutton's Third XI played Earlestown. Sutton batted first and made 205 from their 40 overs. Keiron Barr 97 not out and Sean Anders 35 and Darren Hockenhull 27 were in excellent touch with the bat. In a game that could have gone either way Sutton bowled Earlestown out for 160 with John Allanson taking 5-37 but was backed up well by all the bowlers.
Sutton wish to thank their match sponsors MPE Engineering, St Helens Roofing Co and PYC Engineering for their support.
