PARENTS in Heysham have formed a campaign group to save their school swimming pool.
The new committee plans to contact fellow campaigners in Carnforth and Hornby who are fighting to save their school pools.
The baths are threatened because of cutbacks from the county council. The campaigners now want Lancaster City Council to contribute some money to keep the pools open.
At meeting on Friday at the Heysham school about 30 people met Morecambe MP Geraldine Smith and city council leader Cllr Stanley Henig. According to the Heysham Pool Newsletter Miss Smith criticised her own Labour party over the policy saying: "At the end of the day the city council , county council and government are all Labour controlled and it is Labour policy which is resulting in the possible closure of the pool."
Also according to the newsletter Cllr Henig showed up late but did promise to discuss the matter with officers from the county council.
