BIG-hearted schoolchildren across the borough have been playing their part to help the Kosovar refugees.
Youngsters at Holy Trinity CE Primary School paid 20p to enjoy a non-uniform day. And even more money was raised when the youngsters sold buns for 15p during the lunchtime break.
Miss Linda Partington, deputy head of the school said: "The day raised £87 but we have also held other fund-raising events such as a toy and book sale. Together the total now stands at £200."
But Miss Partington added the amount raised will increase as more fund-raising activities get under way in the coming weeks.
And this week pupils at Fairfield CP School showed their determination to ease the plight of the refugees.
Together the pupils, along with their families, filled hundreds of shoe boxes with goods such as soap, clothing and food.
Miss Michelle Capel, school secretary, said: "Each child was asked to personalise their box with a letter, photograph or drawing to show the Kosovars that people are thinking of them."
