POLICE are searching for a man who stabbed a bingo employee twice after being challenged in a car park.
The courageous employee of Mecca Bingo in Kirkland Street challenged the offender, who was acting suspiciously, at about 8pm on Thursday, April 29, and after being threatened was attacked.
During a scuffle, the man was stabbed twice with the blade of an 8-inch screwdriver, once to the right side of the stomach and once in the leg.
The victim was unable to restrain the thug, but did try to chase him when he ran off up Kirkland Street towards the town centre. A member of the public tripped the attacker up, but he still managed to get up and run off.
The 30-year-old victim received treatment for his injuries at Whiston and St Helens Hospitals.
The attacker is white, 20 to 23 years, medium build, 5ft 8in to 5ft 9in tall, straight blond hair. He spoke with a local accent and was wearing a blue casual jacket, blue denim jeans and a baseball cap.
Anyone who may be able to help the police with their inquiries can contact DC Mike Leyland at St Helens CID on 0151 777 6064, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
