THE 21st mayor, who would lead the Ribble Valley through one of its most important years, was installed in office.
Councillor Kate Hodkinson, and her deputy, Councillor Dorothy Pearson, formed the first all-woman civic partnership for the borough in its 20-year history.
The new mayor was elected to Dilworth Ward on Ribble Valley Borough Council in 1983, where she had remained since.
