AN inquiry has been launched after claims were made that Northampton Town goalkeeper Billy Turley allegedly gesticulated at Burnley FC fans during Saturday's Division Two match.
Burnley fans were seen complaining to match police at the actions of the goalkeeper, who is said to have made gestures after Northampton's second goal on Saturday.
The goal put the home team ahead as they fought for Second Division survival.
But a late Burnley goal made the scores level and condemned Northampton to the drop to Division Three. One fan approached a police officer and complained about Billy Turley's behaviour.
A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "We cannot comment on the allegation at the moment as the officer in charge on Saturday is away at a meeting and the second in command is off duty today.
"The matter will be looked into and a statement will be made."
