NIGHTCLUB queen Margo Grimshaw is opening her wardrobe on television tonight to share her passion for clothes.
Margo, of Toad Hall, Preston New Road, Blackburn, is appearing in the programme 'Something for the Weekend' as part of the 'Ready to Wear' series on BBC-2.
The series charts the transformation of everyday life in Britain over the past 50 years.
Something for the Weekend will examine how Britain discovered leisure time and the clothes to go with it. It also explores the new era of relaxed dressing and designer leisure wear which replaced the stiff formality of the 1950s.
Margo, who owns Blackburn nightclubs C'est La Vie and Never Never Land, said: "I like to think I'm a Miami dresser. I like big fur collars, expensive fabrics, and plenty of glitter.
"I've kept all my clothes because if you live as long as me they come back into fashion. I think clothes tell a lot about who we are. We draw inferences on other people and the way they dress, but we have a job to make a first impression twice." Margo has three large wardrobes, two bags and several boxes full of clothes. She also has 30 pairs of shoes in her collection including large platforms and she thinks every generation has its own temptations when it comes to fashion.
She will also appear in 'Tighten Your Belts' on May 18, which focuses on the war years of utility clothing and rationing. During this period, clothes became a political issue and many women wore trousers for the first time.
Series producer Emma Willis said: "Margo is a very interesting person and she was great in both programmes. It is quite unusual to feature the same person in two different programmes, but she was interested in leisure wear and she had childhood memories of the war, so we couldn't resist featuring her twice."
Margo has appeared in several television programmes over the past five years, including 'Kilroy' and 'Nothing But the Truth'.
Ready To Wear is on BBC-2 tonight at 9pm.
