A PUPIL has been excluded from a prestigious preparatory school after being found in possession of an air pistol.
The 12-year-old boy was discovered with the gun by staff at St Mary's Hall at Stonyhurst College.
He was withdrawn from the independent Catholic school after an investigation into the incident by acting head teacher Ken Webster.
A spokesman for St Mary's Hall said: "We can confirm that an air pistol was brought into school without permission.
"After an investigation by school authorities and discussions with the pupil's parents, the boy was withdrawn.
"The matter was discussed with the police, who decided there was no need for further action."
The spokesman confirmed that the pupil's exclusion from the school was on a permanent basis.
St Mary's Hall was established in 1946 and currently has 228 pupils, aged between seven and 11.
Two years ago girl pupils were admitted for the first time.
The school, which costs between £1,500 to £3,000 a term to attend, houses a 230-seat theatre, rare breeds park and large music and art areas.
