AS a resident of Great Harwood, I am extremely concerned about the proposed building of a Safeway supermarket in Queen Street.
I have looked closely at the plans and also went to the Safeway 'roadshow.' It is clear that land which belongs to the people of Great Harwood will be annexed.
My fear is that if the development goes ahead, this parkland will be lost and the floodgates will be opened for other developers to submit plans for other projects.
Having looked at the traffic survey figures, I believe that, during the busy periods especially, Queen Street will be unable to cope with the amount of traffic generated and will be a danger to residents.
Also, the proposed site of the new library, next to the exit road from the fire station, will cause problems in emergencies; tenders having difficulties trying to get into a line of traffic filling Queen Street and, again, a danger to children, senior citizens and disabled.
The time firemen may lose could possibly cause loss of life.
