I RECENTLY lost my Dad after a short illness. He lived with us as part of our family for eight and half years.
One of his sayings was: "I came with now't, I'll go with now't." Hence, he never made a will.
Big mistake!
Although he had no estate, he had an insurance policy - solely to bury him with (his wishes).
Now, I face a huge problem of claiming this policy. Apparently, because there are two of us remaining (he has another daughter), the policy requires both our signatures.
What's the problem, you ask? I'll explain.
Because the policy does not state that the money is for my Dad's funeral, his other daughter believes she is entitled to half of this policy money to spend on whatever she desires.
This causes me great concern as in the past, as long as I can remember, there has been no interest whatsoever from her as to his well-being, financial position or needs.
How upset my Dad would be if he knew about all this. Can he not rest in peace?
My advice to all is, for goodness (and peace's) sake, make a will. Then, the people who belong under their stones will hopefully remain there!
