NEWLY-CROWNED Accrington Carnival Queen Claire Calverley is looking forward to leading a glittering procession through the town.
Accrington and Rossendale College student Claire, 17, was chosen ahead of 19 other local hopefuls as the jewel in the event's crown.
Claire, who lives in Accrington, was selected by a panel of judges at a glamorous gala night at Poplar Working Men's Club. By her side during the spectacular June 19 parade will be 18-year-old Alexandra Smith, of Knuzden, who is studying to be a nursery nurse. And student Sarah Holmes, 16, of Accrington, who was judged third in the contest, will also take part in the event, which has been organised by Accrington Lions and is sponsored by the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.
