BLACKBURN Rovers went out of the Blue Star international under-20s tournament in Switzerland yesterday when they were beaten by Dutch champions Feyenoord on penalties in the quarter finals.
The club took a very young squad, including seven of their Academy under-17s players, to compete against some of the top clubs in the world and did their reputation no harm at all.
The tournament had to be rejigged after torrential rain washed out the first day's play and Rovers were paired with Sampdoria and FC St Gallen when the groups were redrawn.
Two goals from Paul Forsyth gave them a 2-0 win over Swiss side St Gallen, while they drew with Sampdoria to reach the quarter finals.
Another goalless draw with Feyenoord went to penalties with Rovers going out.
