IT'S hard for a man to make himself heard when surrounded by a chorus of women.
And Alan Winstanley ought to know! For he's the lone male voice in what is intended to be a mixed choir.
"Not that I'm complaining about being surrounded by the girls. I'm in really good company," reports Alan cheerily, "but it would be nice if we had some more men to help balance things up a bit."
The Phoenix Singers rehearse in the old Moss Bank village school, next to the Black Horse Hotel, every Tuesday at 8pm.
Alan, from Stafford Road, Toll Bar, points out that the Phoenix Singers, unlike most other societies, do not accept Saturday night engagements which can be a plus in attracting recruits who may be already tied up with Saturday commitments.
ANY tuneful males interesting in joining the friendly Phoenix line-up can ring Alan on St Helens 612696; or Mrs Tickle on 609478.
