CONCERNED business people in Golborne want to give the town a voice (writes Paul Smith).
And they've formed a new business partnership to do just that, with the first full meeting starting at 7pm on Tuesday, May 18 in Golborne Catholic Club.
Almost 60 members have already signed-up - at a cost of just £10 per year - but it is hoped more will join.
The partnership was formed by local business people worried about the demise of the once-thriving coal mining community.
In an introductory leaflet, the partnership says:
"Like many northern towns Golborne has suffered decline and neglect.
"Apathy has prevailed; drug and alcohol abuse, vandalism and crime have proliferated.
"Shops and businesses have closed and the community has been deprived of a vibrant shopping centre and important commercial facilities such as banks and building societies.
"It's time to stop the rot and reverse the downward spiral.
"Together we can give Golborne a voice."
Anyone interested in joining the partnership should write to the secretary at 26a Heath Street.
