LEIGH WRVS are helping children see into the future.
A £500 gift from their Leigh Infirmary tea bar has bought equipment to help diagnose early sight problems and ensure that defects are spotted and treated early.
The charity has run the bar for over 30 years, and like all WRVS hospital trading projects, profits go back to the hospital for the benefit of patients, staff and visitors.
The latest donation will buy a set of special vision testing cards which help with diagnosis of lazy eyes and visual problems in babies as young as six months old.
Without the cards children of this age would not be able to have an accurate sight test and eye conditions would go undetected.,
Allyson Ryder, head of orthopaedic services for Wigan and Leigh Health Services NHS Trust, said: "We are delighted to receive this gift. The cards are a vital piece of equipment and are used at three of our hospital sites, 11 community clinics and at various other special sites.
"Having an extra set really does make a difference to the number of people we can help."
