PALATINE High School's Internet initiative has received a massive cash boost thanks to a national award scheme.
Students submitted a plan to create a website for a local blind organisation, and a training package to enable disabled members of the community to access the Internet and e-mail, to Barclays New Futures, the UK's largest education sponsors which is awarding £8 million over eight years.
Now the supertech students have learned they will receive a whopping £3,000-plus award for educational materials and professional support for their initiative.
For the youngsters it will be a chance to learn how to work in a team while tackling problem-solving and communication skills.
Senior teacher Frank Shipway was delighted with the award and commented: "This project will develop an awareness of, and sensitivity to, the needs and aspirations of the visually impaired."
Diane Louise Jordan of TV's Blue Peter fame, who has supported Barclays New Futures for three years, said: "Well done to the students of Palatine High School, you're going to have a lot of fun.
"Barclays New Futures gives young people a great opportunity to make a real and lasting impact in the community and develop vital skills for everyday life."
