A YOUNG man was stabbed just off a crowded Morecambe street in broad daylight and robbed of of just £10 this week.
Jamie Benn, 23, of Albert Road, was knifed in the lower abdomen outside Frontierland at about 1.30pm on Saturday.
The muggers ran off with the cash. He lost a lot of blood and the knife only narrowly missed vital organs.
Mr Benn underwent surgery at the RLI. His condition was described as comfortable by a hospital spokesman yesterday.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident and they are looking for two men. One man was released after helping police with enquiries. Another was subsequently arrested.
Ambulancemen rushed to the scene in an alleyway off Central Drive opposite the Frontierland Arcades and fitted him with a drip. He was immediately taken to hospital after receiving emergency treatment. It's thought he will make a full recovery.
A police spokesman commented: "Obviously we take this extremely seriously. Anyone who can help us at all on this should contact us immediately."
A paramedic at Morecambe ambulance explained: "We were called by members of the public who told us he had been stabbed in the groin although it turned out to be around the waistline. We treated him at the scene and took him to hospital as quickly as possible."
The man believed to have used the knife had a Scottish accent, was about 30-years-old, wearing a green two-tone bomber jacket. The other had an English accent, also aged 30, wearing a white, three-quarter length coat and blue jeans. Anyone with any information should contact the police on 63333.
