SUTTON CC's bid for victory against Aigburth on Saturday was frustrated by the the weather.
Overnight rain had soaked the ground. But groundsman Eric Lanchin did his best to get a game started and Sutton fielded first.
Sutton bowled and fielded well and had Aigburth 79-5 but then the heavens opened and the game had to be abandoned.
The Second XI played at Aigburth and. fielding first, Sutton soon had the home team in trouble at 60-6. Some determined batting from the home team, however, got them to a respectable 152 all out.
Sutton went for the win but a lack of overs and a pitch getting slower and slower restricted the visitors to 125-5 with Gary Frost 31 not out.
Sutton had faced Prescot and Oddysey on Thursday in the 20-over Lever Cup and had won comfortably. Sutton faced the same opposition in the Kaufman Cup on Sunday and Prescot/Odyssey reached 176 all out off 42 overs with Geoff Bowles being the pick of the bowlers with 3-37.
Sutton resumed play after tea and rattled up 30 in the first four overs before the loss of Mike Rimmer. Another wicket fell before SS Das Suttons professional in partnership with K Barr, S Wearden and G Bowles took Sutton to 151 for 4. A mini collapse did not stop an excellent Sutton win with SS Das making a superb 101 not out.
This weekend the First XI play champions Caldy on Saturday and Fleetwood in the Lancashire Cup on Sunday.
