MARY Mayne, one of the borough's oldest residents, will add to her collection of telegrams from the Queen today, May 14.
Mrs Mayne, celebrated her 107th brithday and received her eighth telegram at her present home, the Moorfield Residential Home in Tottington Road.
And Mary, still as bright as a button despite a slight hearing problem, is celebrating with a party for friends and family.
"I feel fine and I'm going to have a nice day with my friends to celebrate" said Mary, "It's always nice to see them and my family, but birthdays are special aren't they?"
The deputy mayor of Bury, Coun Roy Walker, will also be popping in with the town's official congratulations - the Mayor, Coun Connie Fitzgerald, is currently on a formal visit to the borough's twin town of Tulle.
Born in Whitefield, Mary, a former nursing sister, moved to Darlington where she married railwayman Albert Mayne.
On her husband's death Mary moved back to the area, living on her own until 1996 at Millwood Court, Bury, just a few doors away from her sister, Suzie.
Mary has one son, four grandchildren and four great-children.
