TORY leader on St Helens Council Tony Brown welcomed the outcome of last week's elections.
But he pointed out there was still room for improvement as far as his Party was concerned.
The Conservatives made gains on the borough and parish councils.
Councillor Brown, from Rainford, told the Star: "I am very pleased with last Thursday's result, not least because we now have overall control of Rainford Parish Council again.
"We also won nine seats on Windle Parish Council and performed well on Billinge and Seneley Green council. However, I am sad to say we didn't perform as well on Eccleston Parish Council where we lost three seats to the Lib Dems and our mission is to improve on this in next year's elections.
"John Parr's victory in the district seat was very satisfying as it means we now have full control of the Rainford ward and our main priority over the coming year is to improve on our communication with the public on the work that we do."
