ST HELENS Council has set up a bank account for donations from people of the town who want to help the people of Kosovo.
Former Council Leader, Mike Doyle, decided to set up the account at the NatWest because of the high degree of concern expressed by councillors, council staff and the public.
He said: "Obviously everyone is aware of the terrible things happening in Kosovo and the devastating effect on the lives of ordinary people in the war-torn region.
"The government has already moved to help with the crisis and it seems that even more will be done in the future. Opening this account will hopefully help channel money from the generous people of St Helens to the major Kosovo Emergency Appeal Fund.
"It would be pointless setting up a new charity but because money can now be donated at council cash offices it will make it easier for those wanting to support the appeal."
Payments can be made at Lincoln House or any of the council's local cash collection offices, as well as at the NatWest bank.
The account is called the Kosovo Appeal (St Helens MBC) and the account number is 24279358.
