A DRAMATIC last wicket stand clinched Enfield's place in the quarter-finals of the Worsley Cup after a nailbiting encounter with Bacup at Lanehead.

Chasing 162 for victory, the Dill Hall Lane outfit still needed 13 to win when last man Phillip Wilkinson joined David Bracewell at the wicket.

But the tailenders bravely held their nerve and saw their team home with four balls of David Ormerod's final over to spare.

Earlier in the day, a 51 run partnership between Terry Lord (35) and skipper David Thompson rescued the home side who had slumped to 110-7.

Then Thompson did the damage with the ball, picking up 4-38, to leave the visitors rocking, despite a valiant 58 from Neil Holmes.

But as Bacup went in for the kill, Bracewell (13 not out) and Wilkinson (5 not out) showed their mettle to set up a brilliant victory.

Todmorden set up a last-eight clash with Enfield thanks to a comfortable eight-wicket win over out-of-sorts Ramsbottom. The rain which had delayed the tie for a week had a say again as Ramsbottom were forced to cut a fresh pitch to get the game on.

And the Todmorden attack exploited the conditions to the full as they dismissed the home side for just 86.

Their medium pacers bowled the perfect line and length and moved the ball around as only Ramsbottom opener Ian Bell made any headway, top-scoring with 24.

John Morgan claimed 3-8 from his 10 overs, while David Parker conceded only 11 runs from his eight overs, picking up a couple of wickets in the process.

Todmorden were then guided home by opener Stewart Priestley who got his head down to make an unbeaten 44 from 110 balls with five boundaries.

Giving no chances, Priestley lost partners at three and 23 and Todmorden also survived a brief scare when Alex Scholefield lobbed a catch between wicket-keeper and slip.

But with Scholefield recovering to put on an unbroken 66-run stand with Priestley, Todmorden reached the quarter-finals with plenty in hand.

Haslingden completed victory in their rain interrupted game at neighbours Rawtenstall.

The home side resumed at 70-1 with 25 overs to get the 167 needed for victory but were quickly in trouble.

The lost a wicket without adding to the score and lost professional Lloyd Ferreira for 41 to slip to 75-4 and while Glen Barlow put up some resistance Rawtenstall were always struggling. They lost their final wicket in the final over 14 runs short of the target.
