I WAS amused to learn of Safeway's analysis of their 'roadshow' held recently in Great Harwood. Ms Tracy Hostler, public affairs manager, reported 97 per cent support for the project from among those who visited their stand.
The roadshow was very seductive. But it showed only one side of a two-sided argument.
In order to reach an informed opinion about their proposed supermarket, the cons need also be considered, not just the pros. There has been no attempt to do this; not even by our council.
Ms Hostler's findings are, therefore, misleading, just like the proposals themselves.
For those who want to know more about the cons, they are available in my report lodged with Hyndburn Council planning department. I hope that the council will not be swayed by Safeway's shallow analysis.
There has been considerable speculation that I am anti-Safeway/supermarket. Those who have read the conclusions of my report will see that this is yet more disinformation.
I believe that our council have much to answer for in failing to ensure balance in these proposals. The next question is - Why?
