I AM searching for memories, memorabilia and photos of Second World War Royal Air Force pilots who trained at Brunswick Naval Air Station and its annex, Naval Auxiliary Air Field, Long Island, Maine, USA.

The Long Island (Maine) Historical Society is putting together a summer exhibition recalling the US government's establishment on the island of a US Navy seaplane base, a US Navy fuel depot and refuelling station and the American, Canadian, and British servicemen who were stationed or visited Long Island.

Since civilians were forbidden to take pictures of any of this military activity, we have only found a few, but we are sure servicemen probably took some.

There were hundreds of ships in and out every week - during one week there were more than 500.

We're hoping some of your servicemen might have taken pictures of the ships, the seaplane hangar, our beautiful girls, our beautiful beaches, servicemen drinking beer at the recreation centre or having a lobster bake.

Maybe someone has kept letters written home, or a diary - any memories at all.
