DETECTIVES hunting a sex fiend who raped an 18-year-old girl in Burnley have re-released an artist's impression of a man wanted for a serious sex attack last year.
Police said there was no evidence to link the two incidents although they both happened in the same area of Burnley in the early hours.
Officers are also investigating a third incident, in Padiham Road, when a 39-year-old woman fought off an attacker after she was grabbed from behind last Saturday. Det Chief Insp Irene Wilson said they believed Saturday's attack may have been carried out by the rapist. She added: "We have no evidence to suggest the attack in August last year is connected. It is an outstanding case which are looking at again as part of our investigations.''
He was described as 19 or 20, 6ft tall with a fair complexion and dark brown hair in a short back and sides style with the front gelled forward.
Police want to hear from anyone who has been the victim of a sex attack but not reported it. DCI Wilson said: "Any information will be dealt with sympathetically and in confidence.''
A reconstruction of the April 24 rape was highlighted on the Granada Crimefile programme last night. The victim is said to be still severely traumatised.
Her attacker is described as white, 5ft 8-10in, medium build, late twenties or early thirties with short dark hair. Police believe he may be living rough and is well acquainted with the Padiham Road area. He may have been scratched on the face in the recent attack when his intended victim fought him off.
