PNE 0 (agg 2-1) DAVID Moyes was "bitterly disappointed" after plucky Preston failed to make it to Wembley last night.
Moyes, who may have managed North End for the last time, watched his team come out second best despite dominating the play off second leg at the Priestfield Stadium.
Preston, level from the first leg, got off to the worst possible start when Andy Hessenthaler gave the Gills the lead inside two minutes. Preston, under the cosh early on, tried hard to recover in a one sided second half but could find no way through a resolute home rearguard.
David Eyres and Lee Cartwright both had chances but this was not to be Moyes' night - a disappointment shared by close on 7,000 PNE fans watching on the big screen at Deepdale.
