THE Lancashire men's team, comprising three Clayton Harriers and one Todmorden Harrier, took fourth position in the Inter Counties Fell Racing Championship on Saturday. Ian Greenwood answered a late call from the selectors to earn his first Lancashire vest at the 6.5 mile Shining Tor race in Derbyshire's Goyt Valley, but it was his Clayton colleague Shaun Livesey, newly restored to the England team, who was the first Red Rose counter in ninth position. He won his private battle with Mark Horrocks (11th) by a whisker, with Andy Wrench of Todmorden two minutes behind in 22nd. Greenwood finished 40th of the 150 runners and afterwards expressed great satisfaction with his performance on a tough course which included 1,800ft of ascent. Race winner was Neil Wilkinson, who also led Greater Manchester to the championship ahead of Yorkshire, Staffordshire and Lancashire. Former Rossendale Harrier Paul Sanderson, representing Shropshire, was 95th.
