IN DIVISION A of the Hyndburn Woolwich League, there was no change at the top as none of the first three teams played.
Ozzy Hardcores look odds on to finish fourth after doing the double over Rishton Rebels. Daniel Gorton was player of the match, beating both Adam and Richard Hek. Adam pulled one back for Rebels but then Matthew McNamara defeated Richard to ensure victory. Hardcores rounded off proceedings by taking the doubles, to give them a 4-1 triumph. Daniel moves up to seventh in the merit table.
Rebels played a further fixture against Arsenal Haters, but again went down by a 1-4 scoreline. Saqib Mehrban was player of the match and helped gain his team only their second win of the season. Adam scored Rebels' only point.
In Division B, the A Team broke the 50-point barrier after halting a three match unbeaten run by Smash and Thrash. Young up and coming Adrian Bond won twice, to be player of the match. Rikki Whittaker gained a shock point for the Thrashers by taking merit table leader Andrew Evans to a fifth game and winning it 11-9.
This was only Andrew's second defeat of the season and put Rikki up to fifth in the averages table. Andrew went on to win his next game and then helped Adrian to win the doubles. This gave them a 4-1 victory.
CSB stayed within five points of the A Team after beating a one-person Allstars. Daniel Morris managed to gain a point for the diminished Allstars by defeating Tony Brazendale but he could not beat Ben Caulfield. This gave CSB the match 4-1. Ben moves up to third in the merit table. Prop Ups kept their slender hopes of a promotion spot alive by triumphing against bottom-placed Ping and Pong. Liam Brown won both his matches in straight games to be player of the match. Adam McCormack pulled one back for Ping and Pong but L Ganley won his second match to ensure Props the victory. He teamed up with Liam to win the doubles and give them the match 4-1. Prop Ups played a further match against Double H. Liam had a narrow win over Nick Hallsworth 13-11 in the fifth game. However, he could not beat Sam Foster who also won his other game to pick up the player of the match award.
Nick managed to win his second match to give H and H the victory. Props managed to take the doubles making the match result 3-2 to Double H.
Double H also played a second fixture, against the recently improved Tigers. A large contributory factor to this improvement is the recent introduction of Gary Blackburn, who managed to win twice. Combined with Matthew Lyons, who also won twice, Tigers are now a force to be reckoned with. Together they won the doubles and took all five points to move up to fifth in the table.
Results - Division A: Rishton Rebels 1, Arsenal Haters 4; Ozzy Hardcores 4, Rishton Rebels 1.
Division B: Prop Ups 4, Ping and Pong 1; Double H 3, Prop Ups 2; Smash and Thrash 1, A Team 4; CSB 4, Allstars 1; Double H 0, Tigers 5.
