PENDLE: Taxi fares are set to rise if councillors give the increase the green light next week.
The council's licensing sub-committee is recommended to agree a request by Mohammed Saddique, chairman of the Hackney Carriage Association, that fares and extra charges on certain days be increased. Mr Saddique suggested that the starting point for basic fares rise from £1.50 to £2 and 50p be added to the extra charge drivers can levy from 6pm on Christmas Eve and any time on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
The committee will discuss the proposed rises on Tuesday.
