AN unusual and rare piece of history is being restored to its former glory at a Lytham school.
A heliochronometer, presented to King Edward VII School in 1924 in memory of a former pupil, is being renovated.
Work on the device, which accurately tells the time by the sun, is being financed by the Old Lidunians Association which has brought in expert Graham Aldred.
Local historian and archivist of the association, Stanley Brown, said: "Less than a thousand of these elaborate devices were ever manufactured.
"The one at King Edward's is one of the best and the association is pleased to be involved in the restoration."
Converted for the new archive on 14 July 2000. Some images and formatting may have been lost in the conversion.
