YMCA added the Hogan Cup trophy to their league runners-up medals with this victory on Sunday. After both sides started nervously YMCA began to find their usual rhythm and took the lead in the 10th minute from the penalty spot. Lively striker Jack Sharples was bundled over as he burst into the opposing area and the referee had no hesitation in awarding a spot kick. David Tufft calmly converted with a crisp low drive. Foxhall nearly levelled when man of the match Luke Whitworth broke clear but the chance was missed and it remained 1-0 at the break. However, within five minutes of the restart Foxhall did level following a poor YMCA clearance and both sides continued to press for a winner. Fifteen minutes from time YMCA regained the lead with Joe Appleton blasting home at the far post from Michael Spencer's excellent cross. Foxhall had a great opportunity to level again in the closing minutes but were thwarted by a brilliant save by YMCA keeper Joel Cossins.

YMCA got off to a great start by taking the lead in the fifth minute with a stunning strike by Simon Cox who thundered the ball low into the far corner from an acute angle. Foxhall had their chances to level and they eventually did in the last minute of the first half but five minutes after the restart Andy Harvie restored YMCA's lead with a neatly taken goal. Both teams continued to create opportunities but man of the match Cox, playing his final game for YMCA before joining a Centre of Excellence notched his second and his team's third goal with a clinical finish five minutes from time to complete an unbeaten league and cup double for YMCA.

YMCA U17s 4 SPIRIT OF YOUTH 2

LEAGUE runners-up YMCA were forced into extra-time before achieving an excellent Hogan Cup Final victory. Neither team could get on top in the opening period but YMCA broke Deadlock in the 30th minute with a brilliant strike, Liam Cregan rounding the keeper before driving home from a narrow angle and it remained 1-0 at halftime. Spirit however started the second half brightly and equalised three minutes after the restart. YMCA regained the lead though with a goal by Mattie King from close range but battling Spirit levelled once again late in the game to force extra-time. Mid-way through the first half of extra time YMCA took the lead for the third time in spectacular fashion, Steve Acton's ferocious 30-yard kick sending the ball thundering into the top of the net. Four minutes after the turnround the issue was put beyond doubt with another tremendous YMCA goal. Rick Singleton rounded his market on the left and netted with a delightful angled chip over the keeper. Barry Connolly received the man of the match award even though he was substituted at half-time through injury.
