ROUNDERS players have embarked on the quest for trophy honours.
The St Helens League has started its Stanley Jones Knock-out and the Emily Collins Cup. The former is restricted to Second Division clubs whereas the latter involves teams from both divisions.
In the Stanley Jones knock-out, the top half of the draw saw Haydock with a bye while Haresfinch and Grasshoppers battled it out for a place in the semi-finals. Haresfinch, in only their second season, scored 7, all coming from half-rounders, whereas the more experienced Grasshoppers score totalled 15 with rounders coming from Lynn Davies (2), Wendy Beresford (2), Nicola Friar and Lisa Friar.
In the bottom half of the draw, with Bobbies Lane also having a bye, Spartans took on Rainhill at Ruskin Drive.
Spartans ran up a score of 16 with rounders coming from Sue Barton (2) and Janet Ryder (2). Rainhill managed 12 with rounders from Carrol Whittaker and Sue Smith.
In the Emily Collins Cup, Vikings played United Gladiators in a thrilling tie. Although Vikings scored 6, all in half-rounders, UG held on to secure a 6-6 victory, the only rounder of the game coming from Les Hodson.
In the League, Windle defeated Vikings 15-7 and then went on to beat Bobbies Lane in the Show Cup. TNT secured their first win by defeating Burtonwood 14-13. Burtonwoods rounders came from Sue Smith and Paula Smith (2). TNT scorers were Gill Crawford (2), Karen Savage and Laura Bamber.
