HAYDOCK Cricket Club entered their third season in The Southport League with high hopes.
And so far those hopes have been justified as both First and Second are elevens on a winning streak.
The return of Adrian Barr to the first team has given the club a lift and this was evident on Saturday as they travelled to Charnock Richard and came away with the points.
Having put the home side in to bat, the Haydock strike pair of Burrows and Barr applied the pressure early with some good seam bowling. Dave Burrows was very impressive and was unplayable at times as he ripped through Charnock's batsmen, finishing with 3-25. Adrian Barr proved what an asset he is to the club in a devastating 21 over spell he claimed 3-30 and sent Charnock Richard crashing on 158-8.
After the break the Haydock reply was very impressive as Billy Hurst and Tony Derbyshire attacked the bowling scoring runs with some ease. Always one to relish a challenge Hurst hit a marvellous 46 and certainly deserved a half-century. Tony Derbyshire provided the game with an hour or so of bliss, as he sent the ball to all parts of the ground with some blistering shots on his way to an unbeaten 43. Adrian Barr 23 not out and Rob Burke 18 both chipped in as Haydock reached 154-3 and a deserved win. The Seconds continued their winning ways with a win over Charnock Richard Seconds at Lyme Park. Putting the visitors in to bat, the Haydock bowlers were simply outstanding as they troubled the batsmen with almost every delivery. Dave Jones was very impressive, he had the batsmen in all sorts of trouble taking a brilliant 6-35 from an 11-over spell. Gary Ormrod 2-24 and Alan Lever 2-15 played their part as did Steve Plant who looks back to his best with the ball as Haydock restricting Charnock Richard to 126 all out. M Moran 26 M Eastman 33 and S Porter 26.
In reply Haydock's batsmen showed no mercy as newcomer Chris Carlisle found the bowling to his liking. In a fine display of batting Chris made up for lost time with a fine unbeaten 71. Steve Webster blasted 28 while Alan Lever 14 showed he could be an all-rounder as Haydock had a comfortable win making 127-3 at stumps.
