A LANCASTER bobby contacted the Citizen this week to warn the people of the city against buying goods on their doorstep. He felt he had to make the warning after a recent case.
PC Paul Gooch explained: "We had a 26-year-old in Preston prison for a number of burglaries in our area.
"He was very open and he told us he had sold stuff 'on the knock.' As a result of that we spoke to a number of people. Some are being prosecuted.
"The thing is we appreciate just how tempting it is to buy items on the doorstep but I want to warn the public that handling stolen goods usually ends up in prison. It's a very serious offence."
PC Gooch said the public should be very wary, find out who was trying to sell them the goods and if they had any doubts should immediately ring the police.
