STATUTORY notices concerning the closure of Brandlesholme CP School have been posted around the borough today.
The notices are on display at the school, at Bury Town Hall and in the Bury Times classified section. The decision to close is based on falling pupil intake levels.
Members of the public appearing on the electoral roll now have a two-month period in which to register their complaints.
Head teacher Mr Ian Young, who takes up a new post at Christ Church CE Primary School, Walshaw, in the new academic year, said: "The governors will be putting in an objection and so will a group of parents. But we have to be realistic because the plan was passed by Bury Council and any objections would have already been heard by its members.
"Having said that I don't think the formal consultation was carried out at the right time taking place as it did in February.
"On one evening it was snowing and the parents of Brandlesholme needed to catch two buses to the venue."
The decision could still end up on Education Secretary David Blunkett's desk. But this looks unlikely.
Mr Young added: "I understand that the notices have already been looked at by legal staff at the Department for Education and Employment.
"It is unlikely that objections will make any difference."
