CARMEL Sixth Form College has been given a glowing report - and a healthy cash boost.
The college in Prescot Road is one of only four in the North West and 10 in the whole of England to be awarded 'Beacon' status as an example of excellence following a report issued by the Department for Education and Employment.
Education Minister Baroness Blackstone said: "The four colleges are are the first 'Beacons' in the North West, and, as such, will receive additional funding of £50,000 to help them spread good practice in the sector."
The glowing report on Carmel College stated: "It is committed to raising levels of educational attainment as its major contribution to local and regional regeneration. Carmel has outstanding student support and high levels of examination success.
"Science, geography and history are among its particular strengths, while students speak highly of staff commitment."
