A CHARITY for the elderly has joined forces with a home improvement agency to combat cowboy workmen.

The Ribble Valley branches of Age Concern and Homewise are putting together a list of tradesmen who can be relied on to "do a good job at a reasonable price".

Martin Bradley, of Age Concern Clitheroe, said: "From time to time we hear horror stories of how the elderly have fallen prey to cowboy tradesmen.

"At present we do not have a list of recommended tradesmen, particularly for the Ribble Valley. We are trying to put one together and want to hear from anyone has had a good job done at a reasonable price by a decorator, plumber, electrician, joiner or roofer."

"We would like to stress that we will not be recommending individual tradesmen, just compiling a list of those recommended by members of the community," he added.
