THE picture of two fans with a 'We Will Be Back' placard used with Peter White's article (LET, May 17) was of my daughter, Helen, and her friend, Rosemary Thorpe, whom my wife and I took to watch Rovers play Newcastle.
I am surprised that there was no mention of the Newcastle fans, stewards and the police giving the Rovers' supporters such a genuine warm welcome and saying how sorry they were to see Rovers relegated.
We certainly found that lots of them came to us to say that they looked forward to seeing us back where we should be at the end of next season.
I was very proud of the response and glad to be part of the crowd that gave the team such a tremendous ovation at Ewood after the Manchester United match. This was not just for that performance, but because of the way most of them have coped with all the problems we have had all season.
I have watched Rovers for more than 50 years, so I have seen them relegated before, but never given such a spontaneous response.
With young players like David Dunn, Martin Taylor and Damien Johnson and others coming from the Academy, and young keen, knowledgeable supporters, plus Jack Walker and Brian Kidd, all determined that Blackburn Rovers should be back soon in the Premier League, I shall have no hesitation in getting our season tickets. I hope others feel able to follow suit.
