LANCASHIRE'S emergency ambulance service has a new man at the wheel.

Anthony Marsh has been appointed director of accident and emergency services by the Lancashire Ambulance Service NHS Trust.

He replaces Bernard Glenholme, who has taken early retirement.

Mr Marsh, 33 (left), is currently ambulance services director with Hampshire Ambulance Service.

He started his career as an ambulance man with the Essex service, and qualified as a paramedic in 1990. He gained a Master of Business Administration qualification from Anglia University in 1996.

He has also had first-hand experience in providing and managing accident and emergency operations and non-urgent patient transport services. David Hill, chief executive of Lancashire Ambulance Service, said: "Anthony has an impressive track record of achievement in his career to date.

"I am confident that he will be a major asset to Lancashire Ambulance Service in our determination to maintain our position as one of the country's top services."

Mr Marsh said: "Lancashire Ambulance Service is nationally regarded as one of the best performing and most innovative services in the country and I am proud to be their director of accident and emergency services.

"I am looking forward to the challenge of delivering further improvements in quality of service and speed of response, despite ever-increasing 999 calls and financial constraints."
