BYGONE old dwellings - and cottages in particular - seem to hold particular fascination for customers of this column.
Perhaps this is because so many were swept from the St Helens scene by modern redevelopment schemes, especially during the frantic 'fifties and the swinging 'sixties.
Whatever the reason, I'm constantly approached by folk keen to delve into the subject and learn more. Latest queries come from a couple of readers from Eccleston and Moss Bank.
Mike McLoughlin of Gillars Green Drive writes: "Could any reader provide information on City Road Cottages which stood just inside the lodge of Pilkington works?" He would also welcome any photographs of these small dwellings and the date when they were demolished.
Another reader continues the theme in asking if anyone can shed light on a lone dwelling which stood close to a section of wood along the un-made stretch of Sandy Lane, Moss Bank, leading to Crank Road.
He recalls it, from his youth of 40 or so years ago, as occupying an idyllic position and with a huge garden. The place left a lasting impression and he'd be delighted to learn the name of that cottage and the identity of the last occupant.
IF you've a clue or two, please drop me a line at the Star.
