IT would indeed be remiss of me were I not respond to the letter written by my successor in Redvales Ward, Councillor John Smith (Bury Times, May 21).
My powers of communication are much diminished compared to my pre-accident days of August 1998, but his description of me as being "a hard act to follow" demanded a special effort by me to indicate how much those words were appreciated. For his part, John will discover that the folk of Redvales Ward are a joy and privilege to serve and I wish him well in their service.
