CONQUERING the rocky heights of Ben Nevis might sound like a tough task but, for a local roofer, the job is right up his street.
David Dilworth, 47, scales heights every day as a roofing contractor for his firm, Dilworth Brothers, in Chapel Street, Longton.
But trekking to the top of the 4406ft mount in Scotland will be a challenge even for David, pictured, as he sets off on Friday, June 11, to raise cash for St Catherine's Hospice, in Lostock Hall.
The hiking buff has been climbing for more than 25 years and has conquered rugged plains in The Lakes, Yorkshire and Wales as well as the mighty Ben Nevis.
This time around he will join a team of 17 amateur climbers and plans to get to the summit in eight to ten hours.
"I'm really looking forward to the climb very much," he said.
"It should be a good because it is something that the whole community can get involved in and a useful way of raising money for the Hospice."
Other climbers taking part in the expedition are friends and parents of children at All Hallows High School, in Penwortham, including John Nickson, appeals manager at St Cath's. Anyone wishing to sponsor the challenge can phone John Nickson at the hospice on (01772) 324540 for details.
