WHAT a wonderful "own goal" the governors of Woodhey High School have scored with the news that their deputy head, Mrs Lynn Dunning, is to leave (Bury Times, May 21). They ought to be truly ashamed.
As a former member of the non-teaching staff at Woodhey, I am able to say that Mrs Dunning has been a wonderful deputy head teacher, dedicated to the school, hard-working and respected by both staff and pupils. With her experience and knowledge of the school she was more than worthy of taking up the vacant position of head teacher.
Woodhey will now require two exceptional candidates to replace Mr Bennett, the retiring head, and Mrs Dunning. The question is: are the governors capable of making such important appointments?
I wish Mrs Dunning well in her new position as head teacher of Darwen High School. Their gain is Woodhey's loss.
