RAILTRACK management trainees have just one day left to create an imaginative play area at Moor Park High School.

The trainees were challenged to transform the Preston school's playground into a new year seven play area - and give a 'changing rooms' touch to an indoor facility - in just five days.

The team started on Monday and has just today (Thursday) and tomorrow to complete their task, which aims to help put pupils making the transition from primary to secondary school at ease.

The scheme, one of several in the region, is part of the rail company's Partners in Giving programme designed to support community projects with registered charity Business in the Community.

Team member, trainee manager Jenny Stewart, said: "Working with this project is helping us to achieve the fundamental aspects of successful project management.

"It's a chance to put our ideas into action, to test our managerial abilities in the real world."

Moor Park headteacher Kath Moss added: "This is an exciting and innovative project which brings substantial benefits to the school.

"Our year seven area is a very important feature in the induction process, which helps our new pupils settle into Moor Park each year and the team from Railtrack are helping us to enhance and develop this invaluable facility."

Business in the Community's regional communications manager Louise Marland said: "Initiatives such as this contribute significantly towards the local community and companies like Railtrack have a crucial role to play in inspiring other businesses to make corporate social responsibility an essential part of business excellence."
