A FURTHER five changes were forced on St Annes IV for this Wareing Cup first round match against Comrades, following their spirited win of the previous day and this gutsy young side seriously looked like snatching it.
John Dougall, with a resolute 23, stood alone in the batting show until Richard Baldwin and Andy Fearn sensibly compiled a crucial stand of 24 for the last wicket, leaving St Annes on 72.
Fearn (2-19) and Andy Taylor, who was top-notch with 2-9 in eight overs, then ripped out the Comrades top-order leaving them reeling at 20-4.
Back-up bowlers Jack Kelliher and Roger Hughes also did well, but in spite of a tigerish show in the field they could not dislodge Graham Armer who survived several chances on his way to a vital 30 as Comrades reached 73-6.
