SINGING sensations from three Blackpool schools have pipped hundreds of entries to the post to reach the regional final of a Millennium song writing competition.
Around 500 North West schools have been involved in the Voices of Promise project, but Norbreck Primary, Bispham Endowed Junior and Thames Primary schools climbed the regional chart to make the shortlist of 65 tunes.
They will join more than 400 other melodies from other regions in the next round, which involves a professional songwriter going to each school to help with harmonies, backing vocals and production.
The 20 greatest hits will be picked to perform at the Millennium Dome in February 2000 and will feature on a Christmas compilation charity CD.
Blackpool Council's education chairman Eddie Collett said: "We are absolutely delighted that three Blackpool songs have been chosen as some of the best in the North West.
"The children have worked extremely hard."
