BLACKPOOL landaus may have had their check-up for roadworthiness and been given the OK (Citizen, May 20), but what about the health of the poor horses who have to pull them up and down the Promenade all season?
In the 1880s when this mode of transport began in Blackpool, they were not competing with heavy traffic and breathing in traffic fumes.
Today they are nothing more than a pitiful sight.
Many residents and visitors would rather see them trotting off to a sanctuary where they can live out the rest of their lives in peace and contentment.
It is time the town's so-called love affair with the horse and coach was laid to rest.
